Escondido Public Library Supports Academic Excellence with Homework Centers
The Escondido Public Library announces the opening of homework centers for
children and teen students at the
Main Library
(downtown), and
East Valley
Branch location. The centers will be open after school with computers
dedicated for research, study and writing assignments. At the heart of the
homework centers is the addition of nine laptop computers thanks to a
$25,000 grant from the Escondido Charitable Foundation. The
Escondido
Charitable Foundation is a proud affiliate of the
San Diego Foundation.
The need for dedicated homework areas grew from increasing computer use for
educational and homework purposes by children and teens. With the
foundation's generous award, the Escondido Public Library can fulfill its
goal to help meet this need and promote academic success at the elementary,
middle and high school levels.
Homework computers feature the Microsoft Office suite, internet access and
electronic library resources. Computer use is free, available on a first
come, first served basis. The homework computers are
available after school, and upon request, for students that have a need to
do work beforehand.
Designed to be as comprehensive as possible, the homework centers also
include :
-
An Anytime School teacher scheduled on-site to assist students, grades K-8,
with assignments courtesy of EUSD,
during the school year.

- Live homework help via the internet by linking from the library's website, to Tutor.com. Tutor.com offers an online classroom with a certified tutor to assist with one-to-one homework, studying and test prep.
- Children's and teens web pages designed to include extensive links for homework assistance.
-
Librarians and staff in the children's and teen areas to offer basic
technical support and to help locate materials for research and assignments.

- Library subscriptions to a variety of electronic database resources, such as encyclopedias and Biography Resource Center, that facilitate accurate and comprehensive research. Feel free to visit our Databases to explore these resources.
Students and parents are encouraged to use the library and the homework
centers to help meet their academic needs.
