What if everyone read and discussed
the same book?
Escondido Reads: One
City One Book is a community reading project.
The goal is to get everyone involved in reading and talking to
each
other
about literature.
The book selected for this year's
program is Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner which follows the
lives of two boys growing up in Afghanistan during the final days of
the monarchy. The Kite Runner remained on the New
York Times Bestsellers list for months after its release in 2003 and
has remained one of the most loved and most recommended books ever
since.
Join in! Pick
up a copy of The Kite Runner at your local library or
bookstore and start reading today. Be sure to explore this
website to learn more about the book and find out about
special events
and information on how you can participate in a
book discussion group.
Download and print an Escondido
Reads booklet which includes all the information on this website to
bring along with you to
your book discussion group or just have as
your own guide while reading The Kite Runner.
Message from
Escondido Mayor Lori Holt Pfeiler
Welcome to the first Escondido Reads: One City One Book,
our first citywide book club. Reading The Kite Runner
together
will not only be fun, but it will strengthen our sense of community
and give us a deeper understanding of our world. Only then can
we truly understand why Escondido is such a great place to live.
Message from City Librarian Laura
Mitchell
What if everyone in Escondido read and discussed the same book?
I invite you and your neighbors to join in by reading and talking
about
the book, enjoying a variety of programs, and sharing ideas and
experiences.
It's for children, too - talking to their friends, parents, and
teachers about books they are reading and programs they attend,
based on the themes
from the book. We want everyone involved!
I look forward to seeing many copies
of The Kite Runner in the hands of
readers throughout the city, in our libraries and bookstores, in
coffee shops
and on buses. Thank you for participating in Escondido Reads:
One City One Book and I hope you enjoy the experience. |
