Toby Stevenson and Brenda Taylor, awesome athletes who spoke at Escondido Public Library's Literacy Olympics events before they went to Athens Summer Olympics, were cheered on by the Escondido community. In the end, Toby took the silver in the pole vault and Brenda made it to the finals in the 400 meter race.

Mayor Lori Holt Pfeiler, City Librarian Laura Mitchell and members of the Escondido Library Board welcomed the athletes to Escondido.  Both Toby and Brenda (graduates from Stanford and Harvard respectively) explained to the enthralled children and parents who attended the event that their education always came first.
