Digital Storytelling Station
Showcasing at Escondido Public Library's Pioneer Room
Escondido Public Library's Pioneer Room, in cooperation with the
Media Arts
Center of San Diego hosted a Digital Community Storytelling Station in
the Pioneer Room Local History Center adjacent to the main library, 247 S.
Kalmia Street, Escondido, from November 2, 2007 through June 30, 2008.
A digital story station consists of a computer and scanner placed in a quiet
area where people can record a 3-5 minute digital video clip, told in the
first person and illustrated with still image photos of the person's
choosing. An optional music track can be added for a very professional
product.
The public was invited to record their stories - and there were so many unique
stories. These stories included personal or family stories, stories from
local history, stories about the community and contemporary stories about
local characters, to name a few.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for the public to record their own history
and the history of Escondido as well," said Helene Idels, Pioneer Room
archivist. "We had several people signed up before the story station was
even set up."
