22. Hotel Knoll / Palomar Memorial Hospital: The 1886 boomtown had two attractions; a fine hotel and a budding college. The three story, 100-room Escondido Hotel on the east knoll viewed Grand Avenue until it was torn down. The hill remained vacant until Palomar Memorial Hospital was constructed in the early 1950s.
