37. Stanley Peak: While visiting Escondido in the 1890’s, a 74-year-old gent from the Kansas plains was challenged by the Escondido mountains. Thomas W. Stanley flagged his name on the peak which is Stanley Peak today. Old-timers remember when American golden eagles nested in this area.
