Me, My Kids, and HollyWeird

by Chartreuse and Gigi Braun

This book is great for families.  Especially ones that include a teen or pre-teen.  It is written by a 11 year old and her Mom.  The child, Gigi is a kid actor and she and her mother moved from Florida all the way over to LA so that Gigi could act professionally.  This book is based on the first six months of their life in a new place as written in their journals.  You get to come inside the audition rooms and feel the pressure of memorizing 5 pages of dialogue in a half hour.  This book ends up being about not just acting though.  It talks about family and life all together.  For instance, if they are traveling you will hear about all the cool places they are going.  You will hear about who they met that day and what pops into their mind when writing in their everyday journal.

An amazing novel that Colfer has written. The plot is great, and vocabulary, excellent. Their constant badgering of each other is humorous and the good thing is, they're friends in the end.

Robinson Crusoe
by Daniel Defoe

Robinson Crusoe is an enjoyable story full of adventure and peril.  The main character, Robinson Crusoe, is a born sailor who lives for nothing but the fresh sea air against his face.  As a boy, Robinson becomes a sailor against his father's wishes.  The book accounts almost all of his voyages in which he travels to many countries and meets with many perils.  One of his most tragic journeys left him stranded on a deserted island for 28 years.  During this time, he copes with both his longings and desires, as well as the perils of the island itself, including cannibals who visit the shores to perform their gruesome rituals.
